2016313 · Anybody know a test to see if the coolant level sensor is bad? Low coolant light is on but the expansion tank is full. Just replaced the tank, guessing leaking coolant or the removal/reinstall might of broken sensor but would like to test it if I could before ordering a new one.
20181216 · •The coolant level sensor is a switch, and is used to measure the level of the engine coolant in the radiator top tank (surge tank). The coolant level sensor is immersed in the coolant and returns a different signal voltage when immersed in coolant versus being out of coolant.
2019216 · How do you test a low coolant level sensor? Connect a ground wire (1) to the battery negative terminal. Using a sharp probe (3) attached to the ground wire, ground the coolant sensor probe (2) as shown in the illustration. Make sure a good contact is made. With the key on and the engine off, observe the low coolant light for at least 15 seconds.
